Sonia Gupta, President & Director
Sunray Academy of Canada

Sunray Academy of Canada was co-founded by Ray Gupta and OCT-certified teacher Sonia Gupta, a professional educator since 2005. Sonia completed her Bachelor of Education at Western University in London, Ontario, a year after graduating with distinction from Western’s Bachelor of Science program, and went on to qualify as a specialist in both Mathematics and Special Education.

Sonia has more than 15 years of experience in the field of education. She has provided leadership to colleagues and other teaching professionals at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Education and has taught both students and teachers from high school through to university. Based on this experience, she has come to firmly believe that teachers aren’t only in the teaching business; they are in the relationship business.

Building positive relationships between all those involved in a student’s academic journey is, Sonia says, the key to academic success. Students need support in order to feel engaged and inspired, as do teachers, and parents and guardians need support in order to feel empowered as caregivers. As the President and Director of Sunray Academy, Sonia is committed to nurturing the relationships that make that support possible.

We not only offer a self-paced, self-directed asynchronous learning experience; we cater to the unique needs of individual students, providing the practical and emotional support they need to overcome any barriers, and facilitating an open dialogue between teachers and caregivers so that parents and guardians can help their children thrive.

Sunray Academy is a financially stable institution, backed by Sunray Group, an award-winning Ontario-based development company founded in 2006, with 7,500+ employees coast to coast.

OUR MISSION

Sunray Academy provides students with the teaching, career counselling, and study/life skills they need in order to complete the Ontario high school coursesi that will best serve them going forward.

Individuality

At Sunray Academy, we appreciate that every student is unique and we are happy to cater to individual learning styles and IEPs. Our in-depth intake process enables us to get well acquainted with our students so that we can offer them any additional resources they need in order to thrive. We also hold weekly office hours to further ensure they have access to personalized attention, should they need it.

Communication

We recognize that self-directed learning requires discipline. In order to maintain momentum, students need to feel fully engaged in the process. We also understand that parents and guardians feel more empowered when they’re involved in their child’s learning experience. With this in mind, we go to great lengths to facilitate an open dialogue between teachers and students and teachers and parents/guardians.

Mental Health

Sunray Academy does not tolerate prejudice towards those struggling with mental health issues and strives to destigmatize mental illness. We are committed to helping students acquire both the study skills and life skills they need in order to overcome common stressors and succeed academically.
