Discovering AVI1O Visual Arts:
This course is a great introduction to the world of visual arts. You’ll get to explore different art styles, techniques, and materials, and learn about the basic principles of design.
Through hands-on activities, you’ll develop your creativity and critical thinking skills to analyze and interpret art from different perspectives.
You’ll learn to think about art in a personal, contemporary, and historical context, and develop your unique artistic voice.
By the end of this course, you’ll have a solid foundation in visual arts and be ready to take your skills to the next level.

In this unit, students will get to learn about elements of art and principles of design. They will explore the concepts of the creative process, composition, and criticism in visual arts. The unit will utilize activities like mirror-image drawing and upside-down drawing to develop their observational skills.Â
The students will be introduced to shading techniques such as Chiaroscuro and encouraged to experiment with different media and techniques. They will learn to interpret still-life objects and create meaningful still-life drawings while exploring personal symbolism in art and creating a composition with objects that hold symbolic meaning to them.Â
This unit will focus on the development of skills and knowledge of the artistic representation of spaces, both exterior and interior, through the usage of acrylic painting techniques and linear perspective. Students will learn to manipulate color as an expressive medium and create different scales of value and intensity. They will study the work of Canadian artists and explore the relationship between landscape and national identity.Â
Finally, they will get to apply all their learnings to create an acrylic painting that symbolizes how they see themselves as artists and reflect on their work.Â
In this unit, students will explore the ways artists use to communicate with their audiences through different mediums, including printmaking, graphic design, and mixed media. They will learn how to analyze and create efficacious logos, advertisements, and ethical issues surrounding their production. Students will also study the art of printmaking and create their own series of prints using stencil techniques.Â
Finally, they will explore the power of self-portraits to convey personal identity and the social and historical context in which they were created.Â
Through this unit, students will explore different artistic themes and techniques. They will explore the power of pattern, and repetition in art, and dive into the world of creating mosaics. They will discover how to express themselves through three-dimensional memory boxes.Â
Further, students will explore various careers related to the visual arts and finish the course by creating their own altered book, a personalized work of art reflecting their skills and interests.Â
