What is a Prerequisite Waiver, as opposed to a normal prerequisite?
Prerequisites are courses that a student must complete before proceeding to the next course level. As not all provinces have the same curriculum, students studying outside Ontario may not have the courses required under our courses. However, to accommodate this, a student can obtain a Prerequisite Waiver. This consists of an application to be reviewed by our staff to determine whether or not the student’s academic record displays courses of a similar nature that may be substituted for the prerequisite. After obtaining the waiver, a student may apply to that particular course without meeting the prerequisite requirements.
Can you use equivalent credits in place of curriculum requirements?
If students have received similar credits under the curriculum of another province or territory they may submit an application for an Equivalent Credit Assessment. Our staff will then review the material to ensure that the credit is a suitable alternative towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, allowing the student to achieve the diploma without the setback of repeating course material unnecessarily. If a student does not submit their courses for an Equivalent Credit Assessment, the courses they have completed previously outside of Ontario will not apply to their OSSD.
How long does processing Assessment Applications generally take?
To ensure a smooth transition into working towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, all assessments will be reviewed by our staff within approximately 3-7 business days.
Can a student earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma while moving to another province or territory?
Yes! As they are fully virtual courses, students are welcome to complete their coursework from anywhere in the world.
Are out-of-province students charged additional fees?
No. All students with Canadian citizenship will have the same tuition rate. However, additional fees may apply during the process of transferring courses from other curriculums, submitting credit assessments, and aid in applying to post-secondary education within Ontario. Please contact us directly for more information on additional costs.
Are international students of Sunray Academy required to obtain a Visa or study permit to enroll?
No. Because Sunray Academy is entirely virtual, students are permitted to complete their coursework from anywhere in the world, and do not need to travel to Ontario to complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
