Prerequisite: Core French, Grade 10, Academic, Applied, or Open
This unit will help students enhance their reading comprehension skills by applying strategies to engage with tasks actively, ask relevant questions, and visualize key events and scenes. They will analyze simple French texts, connecting them to personal experiences and real-world situations. Students will focus on supermarket-related vocabulary and sentence structures, practice listening to spoken French in a supermarket context, and learn about French shopping culture and etiquette.Â
This will also explore effective listening strategies and conversations, including asking questions, paraphrasing, and using active body language. Students will understand the differences between various French accents worldwide, appreciate their sociolinguistic conventions, and learn unique vocabulary and expressions tied to each accent. The students will also be introduced to metacognition to improve their French listening skills and foster self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses in comprehension abilities.
This unit will help students to develop effective speaking strategies to convey their ideas confidently in various contexts. They will learn techniques such as paraphrasing, using gestures, indefinite demonstrative pronouns, and logical articulations to overcome language challenges. Students will work on enhancing fluency by maintaining a smooth pace, using appropriate intonation, and pronouncing words accurately. They will also understand the significance of correct parts of speech, word order, prepositions, conjunctions, and verb tenses in spoken French.Â
The unit will also help students explore interaction strategies for formal and informal settings, including active listening, asking relevant questions, and utilizing appropriate phrases for seeking clarification. They will be introduced to common French interjections and colloquial expressions from different francophone regions to add authenticity and engagement to spoken French. Furthermore, students will reflect on their speaking proficiency, identify strengths and areas of improvement, and create personalized action plans to address their specific needs and set achievable goals for their French-speaking development.Â
This unit will help students enhance their reading comprehension skills and connect with various French texts. They will actively engage with texts, asking relevant questions, visualizing key scenes, and relating content to personal experiences and emotions. Students will apply vocabulary acquisition strategies to understand new words and appreciate the significance of French Poetry in Expression. They will also identify text forms, recognize features, and stylistic elements, and analyze their contribution to the text’s meaning.
Students will also explore traffic signs and driving regulations in France and Canada, comparing shapes, symbols, and meanings, and understanding driving cultures and etiquettes. Lastly, they will develop metacognitive skills, creating personalized action plans to set reading goals, select strategies, and improve their French reading abilities through consistent practice and reflection.
In this unit, students will enhance their writing skills and express preferences and opinions engagingly and authentically. They will explore various language techniques, such as descriptive language, emotions, storytelling, humor, metaphors, and thought-provoking questions enriching their writing style. They will also learn to structure comprehensive film or novel reviews, incorporate stylistic elements for captivating critiques, practice generating ideas using writing prompts and mind maps, develop checklists for different types of writing, and apply critical thinking to analyze strengths and weaknesses in reviews.
The unit emphasizes the usage of culturally sensitive and inclusive language. Students will create personalized action plans, set specific goals, and employ strategies for improvement, resulting in refined French writing abilities and the authentic expression of their unique voices.
