Uncovering the Secrets of Matter

In this course, you’ll dive deeper into the fascinating world of chemistry and explore the properties of chemicals and chemical bonds.

You’ll study and investigate a range of topics, including:

  •  The properties of chemicals and how they interact with each other
  •  Chemical reactions and how to quantify and analyze them
  •  Solutions and solubility: how substances dissolve and interact in different environments
  •  Atmospheric chemistry: the behavior of gases and how they impact our planet
  •  The impact of common chemical reactions on society and the environment

Through hands-on investigations and analytical activities, you’ll develop critical thinking skills and learn to investigate the qualitative and quantitative properties of matter.

You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the chemical world and how it affects our daily lives.

Prerequisite: Science, Grade 10, Academic

This unit will help students investigate and understand different types of chemical reactions. Students will analyze chemical reactions used in various applications, and assess their impact on society and the environment.

In this unit, students will explore the quantitative relationships in chemical reactions, solve related problems, and understand the mole concept and its significance to the quantitative analysis of chemical reactions. They will analyze processes in the home, the workplace, and the environmental sector that use chemical quantities and calculations, assessing the importance of quantitative accuracy in industrial chemical processes.

In this unit, students will investigate the quantitative and qualitative properties of solutions, solve related problems, and analyze the origins and effects of water pollution, and economic, social, and environmental issues related to drinking water.

This unit will explain the gas laws and the behavior of gases. Students will analyze the cumulative effects of human activities and technologies on air quality and solve related problems. The unit will also delve into some Canadian initiatives to reduce air pollution, including ways to reduce their footprints.
