In this course, you’ll learn how to make healthy choices and develop the skills you need to live an active and healthy lifestyle.

You’ll participate in a variety of physical activities that will help you:

  • Develop your movement skills and personal fitness
  • Understand what it takes to be healthy and active
  • Learn how to make healthy choices that benefit your well-being and the world around you

Through this course, you’ll also develop important life skills, such as:

Unit 1 will focus on developing physical competence, promoting fitness and health, fostering safety awareness and responsibility, culture of safety, enhancing fundamental fitness, and building cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength/endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Students will participate in various physical activities and sports to improve their performance and assess their progress through self-monitoring and self-reflection and will learn social skills, fair play behaviors, and inclusive participation. 

The unit will also explore the relationship between physical fitness and overall health, factors influencing personal physical fitness, and the development of personalized fitness plans. By the end, students will have a strong foundation in physical activities, fitness, and safety.

Unit 2 will help students master various skills, combining stability and locomotor skills, and locomotor and manipulation skills. Students will learn to apply movement principles effectively, understand movement phases, and enhance their performance in sports or physical activities. The unit also enhances the understanding of the components of physical activities, including movement skills, game structures, rules, and fair play. Students will get to demonstrate their ability to apply strategies and techniques appropriately, showing flexibility and adaptability during physical activities. 

The unit will enable students to learn tactical decision-making skills to analyze key components, make improved decisions based on game situations, and adapt to different environments. They will learn to reflect on their competence and confidence to identify their strengths, and areas for improvement, and set goals. Students engage in activities like self-assurance, belief in their abilities, willingness to try new challenges and take ownership of their progress, seek opportunities for self-improvement, and continue their physical activities.  

Unit 3 introduces various aspects of mental health, emotional well-being, substance use, healthy eating choices, conflict resolution strategies, and coping and management skills. Students will identify factors that contribute to enhanced mental health and emotional well-being and learn strategies to maintain and improve their well-being. They will also develop personal and interpersonal skills to promote positive mental health. 

The unit also covers the physical, social, and emotional consequences of substance use and addictive behavior, encouraging students to make informed decisions and explore strategies for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Students will also examine healthy eating choices including factors influencing eating habits and the evaluation of nutritional content to support overall health. Emphasis is given to coping and management skills, helping students develop adaptive strategies in challenging situations and practice decision-making and communication skills related to substance use, addictions, and sexual activity. 

Unit 4 explores the misconceptions about sexuality, the influence of exclusive relationships, the connection between consumer choices, food and beverage, and the awareness of health and safety risks in the environment. Students will identify and challenge the common misconceptions about sexuality, understanding the consequences of perpetuating these beliefs and proposing strategies to promote understanding and challenge harmful beliefs. They will examine the impact of exclusive relationships on individuals’ emotions, personal growth, and other relationships, such as friendships and family dynamics. 

The unit will also focus on consumer choices and their impact on the availability, quality, and nutritional value of food and beverage options. Students will propose modifications to promote healthier choices and discuss ethical and environmental considerations related to food production and consumption. Additionally, students will identify potential health and safety risks in physical and personal environments and explore effective practices and behaviors to minimize exposure.Â
