Sunray Academy of Canada has become an Institutional Member of the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI) within its K-12 school framework at ISCED Level 3 for Upper Secondary Education. Through this membership, Sunray Academy of Canada continues to inspire students to uphold a standard of excellence that reflects both personal integrity and community responsibility.
We know integrity goes beyond academic honesty. While we expect students to submit work that reflects their own thinking, it also means communicating honestly with peers and teachers, and ensuring that their actions align with their stated goals. This alignment helps connect the learning they do now with the person they are becoming in the future.
The International Center for Academic Integrity is a worldwide leader in promoting academic integrity and developing ways for educators to ensure academic honesty in both high school and higher education settings. ICAI began in 1992 when it was founded by Professor Donald L. McCabe, a faculty member at Rutgers University in the United States of America. Professor McCabe is credited as the “founding father” of research on academic integrity, helping to create a global consortium dedicated to upholding the six foundational values of academic integrity in educational institutions, including: Honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage. Professor McCabe encouraged students and his peers in the ICAI to translate these values into action and practice academic integrity in every classroom and campus, as well as in their daily lives
Sunray Academy of Canada’s membership in ICAI further demonstrates our commitment to our three core values: leadership, community, and integrity. Integrity, as a core value, is essential to our work as leaders in secondary education and as builders of a global learning community. Through our ICAI membership—and as part of our commitment to our students and their families—our school leadership team and Ontario Certified Teachers will gain additional skills and practical resources that can be applied directly in our Academy.
As members, we will actively participate in the ICAI Canadian Regional Consortium and strengthen our connection to the Latin American Network for Academic Integrity. These partnerships will help us better support our learners in Colombia and across the broader region. Through ICAI member events and professional sessions, Sunray Academy of Canada will also deepen our understanding of contemporary issues in academic integrity and continue improving our practices, including around the impact of artificial intelligence, proactive pedagogical design, and other emerging challenges in education.
Our character-driven approach to integrity in education places student-centred integrity at the core of learning, guiding students to develop strong moral foundations and ethical decision-making skills. Integrity becomes a personal compass, helping our learners understand the importance of responsibility and accountability in all they do. Sunray Academy of Canada students graduate as young adults who acknowledge integrity as a daily practice of consistent expectations and modeled behaviour across academics, relationships, and life decisions; who use their education for constructive and ethical purposes; and, who understand that credibility and trust are built over time. Sunray Academy of Canada is proud to be an Institutional Member of the International Center for Academic Integrity and deepen our commitment to fostering a culture of integrity in education. Through this partnership, we strengthen our dedication to preparing students to pursue excellence while developing into principled leaders who make decisions grounded in ethics, trust, accountability, and honesty.
