On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, we held our inaugural graduation ceremony for a cohort of Sunray Academy of Canada students who are studying in Colombia.
At the graduation ceremony, graduates received their Sunray Academy of Canada Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), and their diploma was presented by Ms. Magali Boffet, the Education Trade Commissioner at the Embassy of Canada to Colombia in Bogotá. Ms. Boffet addressed the students and their families, sharing that “this program is demanding” and highlighted the plethora of global opportunities available for Sunray Academy of Canada OSSD graduates. In her work with the Embassy, Ms. Boffet supports partnerships for Canadian secondary education in the region, and collaborates with universities to share academic and professional opportunities to Colombian students who are interested in Canada as a higher education destination. To this end, university representative, Ms. Angelica Rojas of Ontario Tech University, joined the ceremony and shared why the Ontario Secondary School Diploma stands out globally—including the strength of its international framework, the ability to access leading universities with confidence, and how the OSSD helps students to stand out in an increasingly competitive global landscape. Ontario Tech University is the #1 Research University of the Year among Canada’s undergraduate universities, #3 in Ontario (and seventh in Canada) as one of the leading universities to study engineering, #34 among Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities, and holds a leading standard in cross-sector collaboration and undergraduate university reputation in Canada.
This first cohort of Colombian graduates was thrilled to attend their ceremony, flanked by family and peers. They spoke positively about their many experiences with the program—from the support they received from their Canadian teachers, the cross-collaboration with other global learners, their expert grasp of the English language, to the tenacity required to complete their diploma with clarity, direction, and the confidence to take their next steps with purpose.
This future-focused cohort shared a few insights on their experience. Of the OSSD and its focus on English proficiency and its many opportunities for personal growth, graduate Dylan Quintero said, “It’s a huge opportunity. Personally, I would like to travel to another country, live in another country…it will open up many doors for me.” Graduate Maria Camila offered advice to current Sunray Academy of Canada students. She said, “My tip is that you don’t give up, that you keep moving forward steadily toward your dreams.”
Throughout our program, our learners and their families can expect personalized academic pathways aligned with Ontario curriculum standards; ongoing communication, feedback, and guidance; a supportive, inclusive learning environment; preparation for Canadian and international post-secondary opportunities; and, an education that balances academic rigour with wellbeing and character development. We’re looking forward to graduating our next cohort of Colombian students in July 2026. New international students from grades 9-12 are invited to learn more about the Sunray Academy of Canada OSSD and how it can illuminate their path from potential to purpose.
