Rattan 'Ray' Gupta is the Chairman, CEO, and Founder of Sunray Group, Canada's largest privately- owned hotel company. Since founding the company in 2006, Sunray has expanded from one hotel to over 75 properties with nearly 10,000 rooms and more than 10,000 employees across Canada.
In 2025, Sunray Group made strategic acquisitions that further solidified its position in the Canadian hospitality market, acquiring The Bisha Hotel in downtown Toronto and the property at 80 Queen Street East, where an AC Hotels by Marriott will be developed.
Sunray partners with all major hospitality brands including Marriott, Starwood, IHG, Best Western, Hilton, Radisson, and Choice Hotels. The company's achievements include being named Developer of the Year by both Marriott Hotels in 2020 and Choice Hotels in 2011. In 2022, Sunray became the first Canadian company to receive Marriott's highest honor, the Partnership Circle Award. Mr. Ray Gupta was recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year by the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and received both the Lifetime Achievement Award at the CHIC conference and the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2025.
Mr. Ray Gupta serves on Marriott's Owners Board and the Ontario Restaurant Hotel & Motel Association (ORHMA) Board of Directors. Mr. Ray Gupta received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the CHIC conference and EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2025. Throughout its history, Sunray Group has been consistently recognized as a leader in the hospitality industry and has been featured among Hotelier Magazine's Top 10 Best Managed Hotel Companies and received the Pinnacle Award for Company of the Year 2024. In 2022, Sunray Group received the Marriott Partnership Circle Award, becoming the first Canadian company to achieve this distinction. Sunray became the first Canadian hotel company to proactively support the Government during COVID- 19 by providing hotel services for arriving travelers and locals in need.

Mr. Ray Gupta maintains a deep commitment to charitable works. Sunray has made substantial contributions to Habitat for Humanity in goods and services, alongside supporting Choice Foundation, Sleeping Children around the World, Hindu Cultural Society, and the Aga Khan Foundation.
Mr. Ray Gupta serves on the Scarborough Hospital Network Board and drives PPES Canada, an organization dedicated to helping under-privileged girls in rural India access quality education. Over a five-year period, the initiative raised significant funds to transform educational opportunities for hundreds of young women. He also supports Refugee Girls Worldwide and York University.

Sunray Group of Hotels manages the company's hotel, banquet, and restaurant operations. Sunray Retirement oversees MyLife Retirement Homes, delivering comprehensive senior living and home care services. Sunray Living focuses on residential development. Sunray Homes provides construction management services and is Tarion certified to build structures up to eight stories. Sunray Development specializes in gas station and quick service food outlet developments. Sunray Education operates an online Ontario virtual high school, enabling students locally and internationally to earn Ontario high school credits through virtual learning platforms.
