Miguel Velasco: Guidance Counsellor
Miguel Velasco is an academic leader with experience in classroom instruction, international education pathways, and institutional operations. As a Guidance Counsellor with Sunray Academy of Canada, Miguel supports the student journey from initial family and student consulting, to advising and mentoring individualized pathways for student success, and ensuring the student takes ownership of their path and potential.
Miguel began teaching at the age of 19, working with students in Colombia before expanding his career into curriculum design, academic advising, and international education within Ontario’s education system. Over the past six years, he has built strong professional relationships with principals, teachers, and academic leaders across Ontario.

At Sunray Academy of Canada, Miguel specializes in helping students and their families navigate complex global education pathways. He works closely with learners from Latin America, North America, the Middle East, and other international regions, supporting academic planning, credit recognition, English proficiency development, and aiding in competitive university applications to leading institutions in Canada and globally. His approach ensures academic planning is both aspirational and realistic—aligned with each student’s strengths and goals, in order to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Miguel has developed long-term partnerships with schools abroad and fosters a culture of cooperation, multiculturalism, and academic excellence. Miguel believes education should be personalized, guided, practical, and goal-focused—all to illuminate the student path from potential to purpose.
